Hello World!

Emir Balın in front of the Colosseum in Rome

Honoring tradition, I decided to start my first post with a classic “Hello World!”.

Hello, I’m Emir. I was born in 1996 in Malatya. After a long hiatus, I feel the sweet excitement of writing for my personal website again. To be honest, I wasn’t entirely sure where or how to begin.

It’s been almost 7-8 years since I brought a tangible software project to life, but during this time my mind has always been overflowing with ideas. Witnessing the remarkable power of modern AI, I couldn’t help asking myself: “Emir, isn’t it finally time to turn everything you once envisioned into reality?” That is why today, I am saying hello to the web once again with that iconic opening phrase.

What am I up to these days? I work at Izmir Basmane Station. After working as a train conductor for 4.5 years, I now continue my duty in the crew and train scheduling division. Simultaneously, I study Industrial Engineering at Yaşar University; in fact, I have just completed my mandatory internship. I have one full academic year ahead, after which I might pursue a master’s degree.

I always wanted to study software engineering and build digital products. But today, I realize that I don’t necessarily need that formal title to write code and produce impactful tools. Especially thanks to “vibe coding”, creating digital solutions, prototyping new systems, and discovering edge cases has become far more accessible. Throughout my life and career, I have overcome challenges by approaching problems from unconventional perspectives and applying analytical problem-solving.

Now, I am combining this problem-solving mindset with artificial intelligence to bring my ideas into working code, developing projects with immense joy. While doing so, making mistakes, debugging them, and asking “wait, what just broke here?” is all part of this exhilarating journey. Above all, this process reminded me how valuable it is to create.

I am currently working on several exciting projects. First is the Basmane Tariff System, which I began developing for my workplace and has the potential to evolve into a comprehensive workforce management platform. The second is a self-service ticketing kiosk interface designed to eliminate station queues and digitize operations, supported by discrete-event simulations in Rockwell Arena.

It feels truly great to be back here and write again. As I bring my journey and projects to the web, I send my warmest greetings to everyone from emirbalin.com 🙂

With an unwavering enthusiasm to create great things: Hello World!
